The best type of evaluation clinic will focus on preparation, instruction, evaluation and analysis. It offers players three types of instruction/supervision... off-field, on-field, and during simulated game situations.
You should come away with a written report card/evaluation. Ideally, look for an event which also video-tapes players during their workout and either includes or offers video analysis packages.
A good event benefits both players and coaches.
Do not confuse a good event with a recruiting service. It's not about post recruiting information on the web. Instead, look for an environment in which coaches both instruct and evaluate, and in which players learn and perform.
The difference between a regular showcase and a true evaluation clinic is demonstrated by the head-to-head comparison below between WebBall's top recommended clinic organizer and other showcases. We've also includes a comparison with other camp events...
TPX TOP 96 vs Showcases
College Coaches Attendance Guaranteed
Since Top 96 is NCAA compliant they can hire college coaches and therefore guarantee attendance. By definition Showcases are not NCAA compliant and can not hire college coaches and therefore can not guarantee their attendance.
Coaches & Players Directly Interact
Since Top 96 is NCAA compliant the college coaches can be on the field and interact directly with the players. College coaches at showcases can only sit in the bleachers.
Hands-On Instruction
At a Top 96 event the college coach instructors work their butts off. They provide hands-on instruction, written and face-to-face evaluations, and on field coaching during games. At showcases, coaches can only sit and watch.
More Bang for the $$$
TPX Top 96 registration fees are generally equal to or less than those of most showcases while providing players much more value. Clinics provide instruction, evaluation, on-field coaching, and exposure to many college coaches. Showcases only provide exposure.
Video Analysis
Top 96 provides state-of-the-art video analysis packages at reasonable prices. Professionally edited video includes options to get raw footage or footage with analysis provided by our staff or a college coach (using Dartfish software). Since showcases don’t provide analysis they usually only provide the raw footage option and generally the prices showcase charge are higher.
Realistic Evaluations
Top 96 college coach instructors provide realistic evaluations of each player’s skills. These evaluations are designed to help players improve their game so they can advance to the next level. Many “showcase” evaluations are designed to make the operators of the “showcase” look good which give the players unrealistic expectations about their ability. Proper evaluations will help you improve your game not make you think you’re are a DI or pro prospect.
TPX TOP 96 vs. other camps
Current/Actve College Coaches
TPX Top 96 exclusively hires current/active college coaches for its instruction staff. Other camps are usually made up of a mix of different types of coaches, scouts and former players. So while they may have only have a few current college coaches, a Top 96 clinic is like attending 15-20 college camps but only paying for one.
True Teaching
Top 96 clinics are specifically designed to teach high school players the mechanics, fundamentals, skills and strategy they need to take their game to the next level. The college coach instructors at Top 96 teach just like they teach their own teams. Other camps….you’ll need to check out their focus.
In-Game Coaching
TPX Top 96 events include instructional sessions and games. The college coaches actively coach during the games providing players insight into how the game is played at the next level. Other camps… you’ll have to check for yourself.
The game format at a Top 96 event uses rules designed to force players to make the maximum number of players giving our college coaches the maximum opportunity to provide instruction under game conditions.
