The latest from coach Jerry Weinstein

Coach Weinstein served as catching coordinator for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1999, and was Director of Player Development for the Dodgers in 2000 and 2001. He might be best known for his 831-208 record in 23 seasons as head coach at Sacramento City College. Jerry is currently with Cal Poly–San Luis Obispo.


Pitching Mechanics presents a step-by-step overview of the basic mechanics involved in sound pitching. Each phase of the pitching sequence is explained and demonstrated in an easy-to-understand and apply manner. The DVD also features several game-tested drills that are designed to develop the key factors in pitching. Among the topics covered: the downhill plane, pitching sequence, rocker step, balance position, hand separation, the glide and stride toward home plate, the power position, the pitch, follow-through, pitching out of the stretch, and developmental drills. Developing Basic Pitches details how and when to throw certain pitches, including three types of fastballs, five types of breaking pitches, and change-ups. The grip, arm action, arm speed, and other key mechanical factors for each pitch are explained and demonstrated. The DVD also discusses how to hit the target with each pitch. Among the topics covered: breaking pitches, when to throw each type of pitch, drills to develop breaking pitches, hitting the target, and fastballs. DVD released 2007.
