More Opinions, More Votes

This was our second major interactive Nose 2 Nose Challenge - more authors, and more voter comments - as we narrowed our focus from general instructiuonal approaches (2002) to some then (2004) hot topics.


We invited recognized pitching experts from across the US to submit articles. We received 6 varying in length from 500 to 3500 words. As we did in the first Challenge (over 2 years ago), the first round was a "blind taste test" - people could read the opinions but weren't told who the authors were. All we said was that they represent opinions from every coast, from those who work with pro pitchers and elite amateurs, including both active coaches and research types.

In truth, the greatest challenge was to find someone willing to put his name forward in clear opposition to the most common opinion. Well, it wouldn't be much of a debate unless we had all possible points of view. So, in the interest of balanced argument, and to give you as much to consider as possible, we took the unusual step of including comments made to us directly by a known pitching instructor, and compiled them into an accurate, if unauthorized, essay which reflects (reflected) his views at the time. (Everyone gets the benefit of the doubt - everyone's views can change over time.)
