Baserunning Essentials
Getting on base is the easy part!

It's getting around the other 270-feet that takes extra skill - speed, timing, and opportunity.

Fortunately, unlike skills such as hitting and pitching, running is something all of us do to some ability level. The challenge is to take it up a notch - not only to beat the throws, but to beat the other team mentally.

Base Path Lesson Series
This expanded instructional series breaks down base running into each stage, with illustrations and animations (for Team Player program members). Also listed here are the essays by elite instructor Rick Johnston for coaches and players who want background and reasoning behind recommendations for high-level competition.

The Full Listing
For those interested in just the highlights, simple tips are available as the 'Short Course'. There are also links here
to drills and related pages on building a better running team.

Going Beyond

Here's additional information and links within WebBall to help your understanding of the "need for speed". The pitching link will help you, as a base runner, appreciate the tactics used to stop your advance.

Coaches Corner
WebBall visitors with valid contributions to the art of baserunning are invited to send us their ideas. Some of the content above comes to us from volunteer contributors and we appreciate their insights. This section also includes a link to previous baserunning questions.

Product Guide
