Nothing is more unnerving than being responsible for other people's kids on an open field when a storm starts building in the distance. We've been there. But what we didn't realize is thunder is almost always inaudible beyond 4 miles - meaning you don't always know when lightning is a risk. So you stand out there as a coach - and probably a parent, too - and you look at the high metal backstop and the open field and what... guess? Well, lightning injures or kills over 6000 people every year. So here's a better idea.

SkyScan Lightning Detector is a sophisticated hand-held (or wall mounted) instrument which detects lightning as far as 40 miles away and ranges its approach, telling you if a storm is moving towards, away, or parallel to your position. Audible warning tone alerts you when lightning approaches. LED distance indicators tell you how far away the storm is.

Powered by two 9V batteries.
