This project began as a straight-forward survey... we asked coaches to report on "Your Last Game". We were hoping for - and received - mixed reporting. Some coaches told us about wins, others about losses. Of those, about 63% considered the game typical for their team and season, 37% classed it as exceptional. Here's the basic win/loss breakdown...

It was also a good mix of the "depth" of the result ... some were close games, others more lopsided victories, or defeats.
We also asked about cause. And at the simplest level it seems there were marginal differences between the reported causes of wins and losses...
Pitching gets the credit for more wins, and fielding (errors) for more of the losses.
But none of that really tells the story of each game. For that we wanted anecdotes and commentary - a real sense, from the coach's perspective, of what happened during the game that might have made a difference.
From those reporting, we've selected a number to explore in depth. We let the coaches tell their own story and what they learned. But we also want to take it farther. So WebBall head coach Richard Todd gives his opinion as to what might be learned from each example game. And then it's your turn to add your own comments and suggestions.
Your Last Game...
We are now accepting more "last game" stories for the next batch of game lessons. Now that you see how it works (from those above), tell us your own story...
Based on the response so far, WebBall intends to do more survey lessons like this series. If you have suggestions for specific areas to look at in more depth, please pass them on.
