New In-Motion animated QuickTime version now available for WebBall Team Players. Please sign in or join.

This drill is designed to identify your star runners and fielders based on the geometry and timing of baseball.

RED lines are direction of hits and throws.

BLACK lines are direction of player movement.

Set-Up

Infielders are in their usual positions. Some other players (outfielders, pitchers, catchers) can be used as baserunners. The rest can be working on other drills outside the infield area.

For this drill, the coach sets up away from home plate, to keep that space clear for the runners and throws home.

The reason this drill works is based on the timing required for a fast runner to get a triple (or run 1st to home) versus the time for the hit, fielding plays and throws to be executed as shown. (Expanded content for WebBall members explains the timing in detail.)
