Before we get to the specifics, we need to dispel some theories about left-handedness that are questionable at best.
Browse the internet and you'll find those who are convinced that a left-hand batter's higher success is due to his being closer to 1st base. That would be true if the only stats category in which LHB's excel is infield singles. It's not. Nor for that matter do you have to actually be left-handed to be an LHB. Hitting preference has more to do with the dominant eye.
