We're going to take only one more page in this series to deal with vision. It's not that there isn't even more to appreciate about how the brain processes visual signals. The problem is TMI ...too much information is now known, especially at the cellular level.
Scientists can now tell us which parts of the retina send signals to which parts of the occipital lobe. They can explain how we can distinguish objects based on their dimensions like color, shape, texture and movement, and dimensional features like red, cylindrical, rough, or vertical drop. And there are theories to explain how we decode multiple objects, separating the important objects, like a ball traveling towards us, from the distractive objects like the blades of grass.
