The chase pitch is the polar opposite of the freeze. The idea of a chase pitch is to give him something way too tempting - he'll go after it, with no hope of good contact, but he just can't resist, can't hold up soon enough.

Most check swings at the major league level are on such tempting pitches, so are most strike outs. In fact, the statistics are astounding ...over 75% of major league strike outs are reportedly on pitches outside the strike zone — and nothing is closer to the definition of a chase pitch than the classic "swing and miss".
