Let's take what we've now considered about timing and movement and break it down even more...
Every pitch has 3 segments.
The part in which the ball comes from behind the pitcher through release point.
The segment in which the ball is traveling more or less on a consistent path toward home plate. (This is where the batter will read the pitch.)
And finally, the late break, in which the pitch sinks, slides, cuts, flutters, or otherwise catches the batter unaware or reacting to a bad read (we hope).
