So if a location change can be, by itself, enough to affect perceived speed, then what about actual changes in the velocity of different types of pitches?
Speed matters, but...
The first thing to consider is that different pitches could end up appearing the same if not located properly. That's a hard lesson learned by more than one pitcher who has delivered his best slider on to the barrel of the bat at the perfect instant in time.
