Ready for what's coming?

On every play
everyone's moving
You're covering second base, with a runner on, and the ball's hit past you into right field. What should you do? Where should you go? And what if you're the Pitcher, or First Baseman?

The photo above from the Digital Ballparks collection was a perfect image on which we could overlay a demonstration of how every fielder needs to be in motion on every play.

SET THE SITUATION

Use this form to place the other team's baserunners, and choose where the hit goes. Review the graphic (and animation) to learn how your team's outfielders and infielders should handle their coverage responsibilities.

1 Select your situation...
RED lines show the path of the ball.
BLUE lines are direction of fielder movement.

2 Check the alternate. (Each defined situation shows two possible outcomes.)

New Motion-Enhanced QuickTime version now available

This feature was redesigned and reprogrammed in August 2007.

It now contains 56 unique scenarios - with static and animated versions, plus revised tips. The static images are available to everyone, the motion-enhanced version and the tips are member-only. If you have suggested alternatives to what we recommend, please send them in.

This coverage clinic is now available in printed form as part of a WebBall Field Manual on defense...
