This is one of those issues many would wish did not exist. But based on the estimates from voters below, the expectation is that this is a wide ranging problem that can affect too many balllplayers at all levels. It should be stressed that there is nothing scientific about the votes; to our knowledge none of those voting has hard evidence to support their % or opinions.

I think there is no reason not to do random drug testing. After all, other pro sports do it, so why not baseball. Players are threatening their health, and this needs to be stopped. - Haven Stiles
If the substances that the athletes are using are enhancing their stamina, allowing them to work out harder and build more mass, speed, agility - I don't feel this is abuse. I have always been striving to find what I consider natural or commonly accepted means of doing this. If the substances in question are harmful to one's health then it should be banned with the individuals penalized to deter any further abuse. - Brian Stover
I think the smaller players are the ones using them. We are in the highlight era of hits and the days of the fast small players like Ozzy Smith are not what rules replays. Kids want to grow up and be on TV. When was the last time a light hitting great fielding infielder got the big endorcement deals? - Roy Phillips
