Akadema's latest glove series takes US Steerhide and puts it through a "Kip leather" process which originated in Europe. Kip leather is 20% lighter and tighter grained than conventional steerhide. As a result Precision gloves are more pliable, easier to break in, with more tensile strength. They cost more but the improvement in fit and playability makes Akadema Precision an excellent choice for the serious ballplayer. (To understand what 20% lighter means, many customers when they first receive their order think there's nothing inside the box - that much lighter.) Kip leather is also used in the new Torino series.
