Young guns
can be taught the mechanics, maybe even the strategies, but first the desire must be there.
It's been said that pitchers are born not created.
Truth is: any player can be taught how to pitch - the mechanics, the grips, even the conditioning routine. But true success will really depend on other factors, too. (Please read the pages on '6th Tool' under 'Challenges'.)
Note: Until players are at least 12 years old (or post-pubescent), we encourage leagues to maintain very strict limits on the amount any player can pitch. This not only protects young arms, it forces coaches to give more players the chance to pitch. who knows where the next great hurler will come from?
