Falcon Series 3

New In-Motion animated QuickTime version now available for WebBall Team Players. Please sign in or join.

As with cross-over and transition drills, the basic concept is to double the number of infield plays executed in a short practice by using two coaches as hitters and two catchers. Each of the four infield positions should have two or three players - working in rotation

RED lines are direction of ball throws or simulated hits.

BLUE and BLACK lines are direction of player movement.

Set-Up

Basic concept is to double the number of infield plays executed in a short practice by using two coaches as hitters and two catchers.

Each of the four infield positions should have two or three players - working in rotation.

The Falcon Series completes with coach/catcher combinations working their short sides. Pitchers are now working on defence from the mound. (For safety the third-base hitting coach should move up the line, clear of the mound when hitting to second.)
Run the Drill

Execute all the possibilities (numbers refer to player positions)...
  • 1-3, 3-1, 2-3, etc. on the first-base line
  •  Plus 5-4, 4-6, etc on third-base side.
  •  Screen (3X, i.e. extra 1st baseman) allows for 5-4-3X, 4-6-3X and other up-the-middle double plays without tying up first baseman.
  • Screen also allows first baseman to mimic throws to 2nd.

This drill is also included in Defending Your Turf. Order the complete field manual in print or chapter 9 as a PDF.
