New In-Motion animated QuickTime version now available for WebBall Team Players. Please sign in or join.

This is a tight space, reaction drill. Objective is to teach charging and coverage. If run indoors, use safety balls. If run outdoors, have a back-up at each position, and move the players out at short and second.

RED lines are direction of ball throws or simulated hits.

BLUE and BLACK lines are direction of player movement.

  • 3rd base does a double play relay (or a grounder) to 2nd base.
  • 2nd base does a short toss to the shortstop who makes the throw 'home'.
If you have only one extra player (say 6 in total) then each player can rotate by following the ball path one position each complete round, or...

Part 2: Players Moving

Animation and details, including opposite rotation and variations, available to Team Players and Team Site Managers. Please login or join now.

This drill is also included in Defending Your Turf. Order the complete field manual in print or chapter 9 as a PDF.
