There are only two camps of coaches - those who absolutely love their fungo bat and those who have yet to find true love. I recently got my first chance to use this new Biaxial-coated Fungo developed by Tom Cat, wrapped end to end in woven fiber. I used it, other coaches used it, we love it. The typical weight drop on these makes for an effortless swing. You could toss up and hit grounders and flyballs all day. And the wrap will provide years of happy coaching. - Richard Todd, WebBall

The coaching bat that delivers the hits

The latest innovation from Tom Cat - a bulb-style fungo wrapped in high-tech Biaxial Plus woven fiber. The only wood fungo with a 90-day warranty against breakage in every day use.

These remarkable coaching bats are made from light yet dense Red Maple and are fully wrapped in Biaxial Fiber. The shaft is smooth finished but the barrel has extra bite as shown. With typical weight drops of -10 or -11 (i.e. a 34" Biaxial Bulb-style Fungo weighs under 24 oz), this is an effortless bat for any coach to use for even the longest infield/outfield practice - it practically swings itself! And the high-tech wrap means the bat will keep on smacking grounders and flyballs for a long time.

Why biaxial fiber?

Not content to go with someone else's recommendation, Tom Cat evaluated every possible method and material for this new wrap. Tested were the Kevlar brand material, carbon composites, glass fiber, and a substance called basalt. The factors looked at were application, weave pattern, appearance, strength, finish, added weight and, of course, performance vs price.

The final choice was a biaxial weave in basalt - a special kind of lava rock turned into an aerospace grade material you'd expect to see as the skin of a stealth aircraft. It provides compressive strength along the length of the bat and it's good to grip (you don't need pine tar).

Featured on the new Tom Cat Biaxial Plus Fungo, this same wrap is also an integral component or an option you can add to any/every custom Tom Cat Pro bat you order.
