The debate is still on about these pitches.
Sliders are often misunderstood - and mishandled. If the break is sideways, caused by a spin of the ball parallel or somewhat parallel to the ground, then you can assume it is some variation of a slider. But it could be just a cut fastball - a much safer pitch to throw (see below). Remember: The best judge if a pitch is working for you is not the grip but the results it gives you in getting batters out.
