Falcon Series 2

New In-Motion animated QuickTime version now available for WebBall Team Players. Please sign in or join.

The transition sequence brings more possible plays into the Falcon Series, first by pairing one of the coach/catcher combinations with middle infielders (see cross-over page), and by having the other coach/catcher combo work with first and third.

RED lines are direction of ball throws or simulated hits.

BLUE and BLACK lines are direction of player movement.

Set-Up

Basic concept is to double the number of infield plays executed in a short practice by using two coaches as hitters and two catchers.

Each of the four infield positions should have two or three players - working in rotation.

During transition phase, the concept remains the same: to double the number of infield plays executed in a short practice.

If done smoothly, your teamwork can transition from cross-over to split-field drills with no interruption.
Run the Drill

Execute all the possibilities (numbers refer to player positions). Continue with Cross-Over drills.
  • Introduce 5-3, 3-5, 2-5 feeds.
  •  As well as 4-6 and 6-4 short tosses around second.
  • While this is happening, infielders who are also pitchers fetch a screen to be set up between first and second.
  • Once the screen is in position, move on to the Split-Field drills in which 4-5-6 work together in one group and P-C-3 work in the other group.

Notes

Compare the start sequence above with what's shown as the Cross-Over end sequence (animated version only). You can and should alternate the right foul line coach hitting to 5/3 and left-line coach hitting to 4/6 with the opposite approach (left hits to 5/3, right hits to 4/6). This will aid fielders' ability to respond to balls coming at them with different speeds and angles vs the base they must turn and throw to.
